What’s Going On With Apple Stock Monday?

Aug 24, 2026

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock traded higher Monday as investors favored mega-cap technology stocks during a broader market decline. The stock gained about 1%, while the Nasdaq fell 1.37% and the S&P 500 lost 0.36%.

The stock’s gain during a weak market points to relative strength. Investors often favor liquid, index-heavy companies when broader risk appetite fades.

The relative strength comes as new industry data shows Apple weathering a sharp smartphone slowdown better than many rivals.

Southeast Asia Slump Highlights Market Divide

Southeast Asia smartphone shipments fell 15% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, Counterpoint Research said Monday. That marked the steepest decline since early 2023.

Weak consumer spending and rising component costs hurt the budget market. Shipments of smartphones priced below $150 plunged 38%.

Samsung Electronics Co. (OTC:SSNLF) led the region with a 24% market share. Its shipments rose 6%.

Meanwhile, Apple remained in Southeast Asia’s top five for the second consecutive quarter. It held a 9% share, supported by a wider offline presence and ecosystem-driven demand. Apple’s shipments fell only 2% despite the broader market downturn.

HONOR recorded the fastest growth, with shipments jumping 61%.

Premium demand remained strong. Shipments of phones priced between $500 and $699 surged 74%. Meanwhile, shipments in the above-$700 category rose 18%.

Counterpoint expects higher costs and cautious consumer spending to pressure the market through the second half of 2026.

Technical Analysis

Apple traded near its key medium-term moving averages. The stock was about 0.3% above its 50-day simple moving average of $310.52. However, it remained roughly 0.5% below its 20-day average of $313.06.

This narrow range could produce choppy trading. A move above the 20-day average may strengthen momentum. A drop below the 50-day average could increase selling pressure.
